I had the privilege of working with a brilliant team of designers on the Netflix Games Platform (NGP), leading the implementation of social features and service capabilities to empower connected play across Netflix Games.
The role was uniquely split between designing the Netflix Games UI and partnering with external Netflix-owned game studios to leverage the platform’s social services.
The NGP UI sits on top of Netflix game titles and serves as a global access point to platform features like Achievements, player profile, privacy settings, and Friends.
I worked with a team of engineers and a product manager to design and build the Friends list, which includes realtime play activity from friends, statuses, friend requesting, and adding friends.
We used a sheet-based system for features like the Player Profile, so it could float anywhere in the NGP or launch directly from inside a game.
A significant portion of the project involved working with Trust & Safety teams to implement core safety features like blocking and reporting other players — more of the sheet-based system in practice.
Productization included a multi-month effort to localize the suite of social features across every language Netflix supports, including right-to-left languages.
I worked closely with Netflix’s external studios to integrate social features directly into their game titles, including Squid Game: Unleashed by Boss Fight Entertainment — a party-driven, multiplayer battle royale.
